Frequently Asked Questions

Essential Questions Answered Here

How can I prepare  for the season?

From November through February, on Mondays we will have a team workout on the track from 2:45-3:30, followed by team lifting from 3:30-4:15. Wednesdays, we lift from 2:45-3:30 then head outside for a run from about 3:30-4:15. Beginning in January, we will add conditioning runs and workouts at Highbanks every Tuesday and Thursday, 3:15-4:30 weather permitting. If you are not participating in a Winter sport, you are expected to be at conditioning. This is the very best way to bond with the team and ensure that you're ready when the season officially begins in February!

Investing in a great pair of running shoes is also and essential part of preparing for the season. We will have a team night at RoadRunner Sports in Worthington in February, but feel free to shop any local running shoe store such as FleetFeet, Columbus Running Company, etc to make sure you're getting fitted for the right shoe for you.

When is practice?

Starting Tuesday, February 20th, spring track & field practice is every day Monday-Friday from 3:00 until 5:30. Some event groups may practice a little longer depending on the workout. BE ON TIME and NEVER leave practice without being dismissed by the coach you are working with.

What do I need to bring to practice?

Always arrive prepared with your water bottle, post-workout snack, spikes, watch, (hats and gloves early on), and a towel if you want it for core/stretching. Make sure you dress in layers and have proper running shoes for practice. Better to have and not need than need and not have! Get in the habit of packing your bag before bed the night before and you'll never be without.

How will I know what events to do if I've never done Track before?

Try it all! Start with what you are most comfortable with to ease in, but make sure you try different groups on workout days to see where you really fit in. Your coaches will be on the lookout for potential... give everything a shot and you might surprise yourself!

What if I have to miss practice?

Our season goes by quickly, so make practice a priority while it's here. When you aren't here, you are demonstrating to your teammates that your time is more valuable than theirs, or that you're not committed to the team. Communicate with Coach Sosa about extenuating circumstances outside of practice.
